Getting that first set of aligners can be both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. You are beginning your journey to correct the teeth alignment problems that have been bothering you. At Gutierrez Orthodontics, we will make sure that you feel ready for the process that awaits you going forward. Every Patient is slightly different, but here are a few of the things that most patients experience on the first day of invisalign treatment:
Speech Changes – while getting used to your aligner, you will probably speak with a slight lisp. This may last for a week or more until you get accustomed to having the aligners in your mouth
Minor Discomfort – It is normal to feel a little discomfort or pressure on your teeth the first day you are wearing a new set of aligners. Some people notice a relatively small amount of pressure, while others may need to take an OTC pain reliever for the first day or two in your new aligner.
Removal Issues – Until you are used to the aligners, it may be difficult to take them out at first. The Removal technique is something that you need to get used to, and it gets easier over time. It also becomes easier to remove as the aligners loosen up over the cycle of aligner usage.
Gum Irritation – Sometimes an aligner may feel like it is persistently rubbing a certain area of gum tissue. If this is the case we can trim the edges of the aligners to make them more comfortable.
Cleaning – It is important to keep your teeth and aligners as clean as possible. Prior to putting in your aligner, be sure to brush and floss your teeth. when you take out your aligners be sure to rinse them thoroughly.
