5 Tips for Caring for your Invisalign Aligners

The beauty of Invisalign aligners is that you may remove them. The downside? They’re nearly invisible and easy to miss—they also require special handling and care. But that’s an easy price to pay considering how easy they are to wear as opposed to traditional metal braces fixed in place, right?

We’ve got five easy tips to help you with the care of your Invisalign. Tampa-based Gutierrez Orthodontics is happy to answer anything we missed, or additional questions you have.

  1. One of the main advantages of a removable appliance is ease of eating. Always remove your aligners to eat. This way you won’t trap food particles or harmful sugars on your teeth for a prolonged period. The good news is you can eat whatever you want while your aligners are safely stored away—but remember to put them back in your mouth after you’ve brushed your teeth after eating.
  2. No hot beverages while wearing your aligners. Heat can distort the plastic resin of your aligners—and stain them.
  3. Pay the same careful attention to your aligners and trays as you do your oral hygiene. Your Invisalign aligners are made of a thermoplastic material so please refrain from soaking them in mouthwash to avoid staining.
  4. No gum please. Gum will damage your aligners.
  5. Finally, be sure to store your aligners away from pets, especially dogs, who will treat your precious aligners as their new chew toy.

At Gutierez Orthodontics, we will go over the care and keeping of your Invisalign aligners. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us.
